As part of a flurry of activity this year, ScienceNV are releasing a new single. A number of singles and videos, along with two full albums, have all been released so far this year. The new single, “Above the Falls” comes from The Quest for Prester John Volume One.

Headquartered in San Francisco, California, ScienceNV was formed in 2005 by Larry Jay Davis (guitar and bass guitar), David Graves (keyboards), Jim Henriques (guitar and keyboards) and Rich Kallet (drums). ScienceNV released their debut album, Really Loud Noises in 2008. They followed that up with Pacific Circumstances in 2010. The Last Album Before the End of Time was released in 2013. 2018 has seen the release of The Quest for Prester John Volume One and The Quest for Prester John Volume Two.

Their latest is actually a double disc concept album. It might seem a bit unusual, but the two parts of the set were released a few months apart. There is a lot more information about the two-fer of The Quest for Prester John Volume One and The Quest for Prester John Volume Two including notes and credits to found at ScienceNV.com.

In his review for The Quest for Prester John Volume One (at Growing Old With Rock and Roll), Jason Hillenburg talked about the softer, folk/progressive textures of “Above the Falls.” He noted that, “the lyrics offer up some of The Quest for Prester John’s best storytelling and the vocals pay close attention to hitting the right phrasing.“ He also called it “one of the sharpest tracks emerging from this release.”

Doctor Abner Mality at Wormwood Chronicles said that it reminded him “of classic 70’s prog with a slightly modern touch.” At Mondo Music Media Larry Toering said that the song, “is one of the more interesting tracks to be heard before it’s all over for Volume One of this title.” He also said that it is “containing some killer acoustic guitar work which goes onto essentially dominate the song.” In his review at Music Street Journal, Greg Olma said that “Above the Falls” “is the most straight forward piece on this album. It’s a progressive sounding tune without many time changes or “parts,” yet it still manages to fit in nicely with the other prog elements on this record.”
