Nestler is scheduled to perform at the Rockwood Music Hall Stage 3, 185 Orchard St., New York, NY 10002 on Saturday, September 29 for the album’s East Coast live premiere. Tickets can be purchased HERE
“Having spent a considerable amount of time in the New York area over the past couple of years, I’m extremely excited about going back and performing “Mama’s Child” live in the Big Apple,” enthuses Nestler. “You could say New York was something of a genesis for what became “Mama’s Child”. While touring with PHILM a few years ago, I had performed three shows on a grand piano with the band. Two of the live performances with this arrangement happened in Manhattan, New York at The Stone and the other one on a cruise ship in Brazil. The venues were small and intimate. The music was freely improvised and I had given the musical impressions titles. We recorded an entire catalog of this kind of stuff at Eastside Sound. The recordings were going to be released under the title “PHILM Noir” but it never happened. But, those shows reminded me that the piano and voice where essentially important to my own artistic expression. So I put together “Mama’s Child”, not just to do something stylistically different, but to rebel in a way against some of the status quo today. That is the same reason why I got into metal music as a rebellious teenager.”
Nestler ‘s band for the upcoming New York show will include PHILM band mate and WAR alum, Pancho Tomaselli, on bass, long-time Mike Keneally affiliate Evan Francis on saxophone, and Grammy nominated Venezuela native, Pablo Bencid, on drums. “We had a great L.A. live premiere last week with David Urquidi from WAR on sax and Max MacVeety on drums, and I’ll miss not having those guys with me, but I’m looking forward to playing live with Evan because he played on the album and added so much to “Mama’s Child”; and Pablo is one of the best in New York City. It’ll be flying by the seat of the pants, with minimal rehearsals, but I’m always up for a challenge.”
