Eight years after their debut album ‘Ingesting Putridity’, the US-based brutal death metal band Visceral Disgorge are back with the follow-up. During the intervening period there have been quite a few line-up changes, with only singer Travis Werner still there from the debut, but he convinced original drummer Billy Denne to return and they have bene joined by Charlie Marvel (guitars), Steve Miles (guitars) and Eric Little (bass). Werner has a very deep vocal style, something which in the past has been kept in the background but on this album it is more to the fore, and the mix appears well-balanced. There is a section within “Saprogenic Deformation” where Denne is playing some gentle cymbal and it fits in totally within the space which has been created for it.

There is a strong use of dynamics, both in terms of speed and attack, allowing the music to breathe and move. But when they turn it on they hit very hard indeed – there are elements of Agoraphobic Nosebleed at times as they move more into a grind area, the result being an album which will appeal to all those who want their music to be extreme.
