Today is Georges Bizet’s birthday (October 25, 1838).

This track – which has served the band regularly as the show opener – was recorded during the sessions for the ‘Crysis’ album (2014) and was eventually left out.

Bizet composed Carmen towards the end of the 19th century, while struggling to achieve recognition as a composer. Unfortunately he did not reach the status he was yearning for and shortly after a coldly received premiere of this opera, he passed away. He died with the knowledge that he failed, yet not too long after his death Carmen became the most popular opera in the world. Modest Midget salutes Bizet for his persistence writing what he believed in, rather than what the contemporary market was demanding.
