In November of 2016 Kevin Lawry broke free from his musical past, leaving the towering doom of Silent Winter and Khthon behind him, along with the psychedelic explorations of Crowned In Earth, with the release of his first solo album, The Shadows Stole The Dawn. Kevin explained his need to branch out on his own and follow his heart at the time…

“I feel that now is the time to move on and begin a fresh musical chapter without expectations of what a previous band name and history might suggest, to continue creating engaging music without boundaries! It’s the end of a long era but an open door to a whole new musical landscape!”

A quietly beautiful album of pastoral progressive rock, The Shadows Stole The Dawn garnered considerable critical acclaim, with Sea Of Tranquillity calling it “enigmatic and full of character” and Soundscape Magazine recognizing a “deeply personal and honest endeavour”. Well now it’s time for Kevin Lawry’s journey through his newfound musical landscape to continue…

On March 26th the second album of Kevin’s solo career was released. The Journey Of Regret delves even deeper into the heart of the great ‘70s progressive rock classics, blending a depth of emotion with expansive music that runs the gamut from brooding melancholy to light, playful passages and explores countless meandering paths along the way. The musical freedom that The Shadows Stole The Dawn tentatively approached, The Journey Of Regret embraces wholeheartedly. The Journey Of Regret is accomplished, complete and happy in its own skin; it quietly reflects when the mood takes it, dances unselfconsciously when it wishes, leaps into playful complexity with a knowing wink and slips from darkness to a pulsing groove with a breathtaking smoothness. This is a genuine progressive rock album with all the adventurous spirit of the greats that inspired it – Yes, Genesis, Camel, Caravan, Gentle Giant and more.

Speaking about his latest album Kevin had these words to say…
“The Journey of Regret was inspired by the massively ambitious albums made by the classic progressive rocks bands of the seventies. The songs were made with a huge amount of passion to create the feelings of wonder I felt when I first heard Pink Floyd, Genesis and Mike Oldfield as a child. Although lyrically on the dark side, the songs are very beautiful and uplifting. The Journey of Regret is the most vast, escapist and grand music I’ve created so far! It’s also the closest I’ve ever come to writing a concept album as the lyrics are loosely based around an old man looking back on his life during his final moments.”

Wanting nothing more than to give people the chance to share in the joy of his music Kevin has made The Journey Of Regret available for whatever price people feel able to pay on his bandcamp page. This is his gift to everyone who shares his passion for unfettered music. An album that is free in every sense of the word…
