Sipher is the brainchild and solo project of Norwegian singer and drummer, Eirik Søfteland. He has created their first full-lenght “Atlas”, with his longtime friend and bassplayer Leif Herland, and Ylvis-producer and songwriter Lars Bleiklie Devik.

Crafted to coherence
Atlas is a cacophony of ideas that represents a different part of musical inspiration for Eirik. Together with Leif and Lars, Eirik matured these ideas and built a framework around them that became the wide musical expression that is Atlas. Spanning from a funk-drenched feel, to progressive twists and turns, melodic rock lines and Queen-sized choirparts, this record is challenging as a whole. And it delivers when it’s supposed to , and is crafted to coherence.

The album was recorded partly in the massive PhatCat Studios in downtown Oslo and partly in engineer Johannes Groth’s house in idyllic South River Studios in Hynnekleiv. Mixed by sound wizard Christer-André Cederberg (Animal Alpha, Circus Maximus, 22, Rendezvous Point) at Ocean Sound Recordings, and mastered by legendary Gavin Lurssen in Lurssen Mastering, in LA. The release date has been set to September 21st 2018.

The live setting
Playing live the progressive sextet consists of frontman Søfteland and Herland (Sworn, KingCalling) on bass, Jens Erik Aasmundseth (ex-Major Parkinson) on drums, Jarle H. Olsen (Quadrasonic) and Tore Christer Storlid (Prog Atom) on guitars, and Magnus Johansen (Maraton, Withem, Hex A.D) on keyboards. Hard hitting riffs and melodic harmonies intertwine with progressive elements and wide choruses to make their sound a combination of classic hard rock and modern alternative and progressive rock.
