Prior to 2017’s ‘There’s Something About Beryl’ the band imploded, leaving guitarist Tarquin as the sole remaining member. He pulled together a new band, they recorded the album, and now they are back with the next. They may have replaced the bassist, and the one who appears on the album has himself been replaced, but alongside Tarquin we still have Faceless Killer (drums) and the one and only Beryl on vocals (who in real life isn’t Beryl at all, but that’s another story). Here we have grindcore with clips from movies, introduced at the beginning by a woman with a lovely voice. One wonders if that is Beryl, as the rest of the time she is singing it isn’t possible to realise she is female, and at times one wonders if she is actually human as she takes her influences from the likes of Alissa White-Gluz. There must be a real risk of her leaving her lungs on the stage each night.

While Napalm Death have been the major influences, there are also elements of Agoraphobic Nosebleed in their music, and the result is something which seems as if it should have been released back in the nascent Eighties scene as opposed to something from 2020. Everything about this band is a throwback, and for those of us who can’t imagine getting through a month without playing ‘Scum’ at some point this is something to savour.
