Hazards Of Swimming Naked are a Brisbane, Australia based 5 piece instrumental band originating from Queensland’s tropical far north. The humidity and vibrancy of that region permeates their music and culminates in a sound which shares all the cinematic grandeur of artists such as Mogwai, Godspeed You Black Emperor and Mono.

Over the past ten years they have written and recorded two full length studio albums Our Lines Our Down (2009) and the new album Take Great Joy (2018).

Hazards Of Swimming Naked are an unique, slow-moving flower, but one that is truly beautiful when in full bloom. Take Great Joy is their first full-length studio album in 9 years, it marks a continuation of the intricate and beautiful melodic compositions that marked their debut all the way back in 2009.

The band comments: “This album took a while to make, perhaps far too long. We all live pretty safe lives, maybe not secure, but safe, relatively sheltered from many of the dangers and problems in the world. What meaningful things can we say as artists? What we know is music, and how much we enjoy it, writing, and performing. So this album is basically music about music, it’s an embrace of the process of making music and enjoying it. There’s an earnestness about it which is oblivious to the cult of irony found in many aspects of the music industry. The album takes its title from a vocal sample where the subject talks about what it means to live.”

Take Great Joy also contains the first Hazards track to feature singing. Adrian recorded a friend singing a well known Icelandic lullaby in an apartment in Reykjavik, Iceland. The lullaby “sofðu unga ástin mín” and tune are over 100 years old. The arrangement of the track was built around this accapella recording of Bjarnheiður’s voice. It’s part Massive Attack, part Earth, part School of Emotional Engineering.

Hazards Of Swimming Naked’s “Take Great Joy” will be available from Bird’s Robe Records on November 30th, 2018 with a vinyl release scheduled for early 2019.
