Plague Pit appear to be one of their bands who don’t want people to know who is involved, as even the press release says the line-up is unknown and the bible which is Encyclopaedia Metallum doesn’t list anyone either. All I can say for certain is that this 4 song 25-minute-long EP is their most recent release, following on from their debut album ‘Topheth Ablaze’, they are from Dublin, and EM is marking them as split up in 2020 after a four year career. If that is the case then that is a real shame, as this blackened death metal release contains real promise. There is stacks of atmosphere, and while many bands in the blackened death scene appear to come at it from the death side with tinges of black, these guys are going the other way with far more atmosphere. We get monklike vocals, death growls, and a band kicking on all cylinders.
The band themselves describe this release as “4 canticles of hermetic Blackened Death Metal filled with savage twisted riffing, unorthodox rhythms and an oppressive and demonic atmosphere” which is a great way of putting it. Fans of Morbid Angel will get a lot from this.
