To say I am looking forward to Lee’s album to be released is something of a massive understatement, as I have been listening to it for months now, and I am convinced it is going to have a major impact. This is the last single before ‘Gypsy’ is out, and I can’t wait for the album launch next month. The venues have had to be cut back due to the current maximum occupancy rules, but the tour promises to be a delight. This song is a great example of the album as it allows us to concentrate on Lee’s delicate vocals, with the guitar gently picked, delicate bass, long held-down chords on the organ, a glockenspiel, then at 1:30 there is a vocal lift which is as dramatic as it is unexpected. From here the harmony vocals make more of an impression, before taking off in a gospel manner. Recorded in South Africa, these elements really add to the overall feeling of the song before it comes back to just Lee.

This is so delicate, with a feeling that a strong gust could blow the gossamer away, but there is a hidden core in the middle which gives it real force and energy. Lee’s vocals are refined, never forced, with wonderful control and the result is a song that is dreamy, beautiful, and powerful, all at the same time. A special mention must also be made of the video, which was recorded in an old church in Christchurch which is being converted into a tap room brew pub. It captures the atmosphere perfectly, alongside a storyline. Given that this belongs to the owners of OGB, where Lee is a regular performer, I look forward to seeing her doing a full set there in the future.

The album is out February 25th – until then keep this on repeat.
