This is one of two Dan Rose albums issued on the same day last year. On this one we find electric guitarist Rose laying through a series of standards, which just a reverb on his guitar for company. It is unusual to her an album of solo electric guitar where the musician is doing everything he can to convey the emotion of the original piece instead of showing just how clever they are with the ability to shred and play at ridiculous speed and complexity. This is the joy and simplicity of this album, but there is also the problem that it all comes across as being very much on the same level. The tone from the guitar is similar throughout, and all the songs have a similar tempo, and with no beck and call with other players it means it is possible to switch off as to what is going on.

This means that for me this is not an album to be definitively listened to, which is how I enjoy my music, but instead is much better placed to be played in the background when something else is taking place. I can imagine this being used in an art gallery for example, to allow visitors to have this playing while looking at the paintings in front of them, but as for sitting and listening to this on its own, even late at night with a glass of pinot noir, is something I cannot imagine undertaking myself. However, if you want your music to be mellow and played with finesse then this may be for you.
