(This EP) Guitar-driven melodic heavy progressive rock with space rock moves.

Rating 80/100

If you google the name ‘Sudler’s Row’ it comes up with a peripheral road around ‘Blackiston Wildlife Area’ which is located in Delaware a small Mid-Atlantic U.S. state. It is here in Newark, in the first of the original thirteen US states, that multi-instrumentalist ‘Nathan Ames plies his various musical commitments to ongoing projects. Such professional interests range from being a ‘Professor of Music (at Delaware University), being the owner and instructor at a guitar studio/academy, and also being a multi-instrumentalist with progressive rock-inspired band ‘Sudler’s Row’.

‘Sudler’s Row ‘is, for the most part, a studio-orientated band producing an amazing back catalogue of 26 various single and EP releases all of which are now available on Bandcamp as high-quality downloads. It is a deal that includes the EP here which is under review and then altogether a bulk 65%.saving on the band’s output as listed below.

Rexx Baxter of the 33rd Galactic Fleet (Chapter 1), Coming Home, Byzantium, Galactic Gypsy, Auld Lang Syne, Arrival, We Three Kings, Good King Wenceslas, and 18 more.

Up and until the onset of ‘Covid’ and for many years prior ‘Sudler’s Row’ could be considered as a   Progressive Rock Project comprising Nathan Ames (Guitar, Bass Guitar) and Anthony Mayan (Percussion). A partnership that has worked together with the overall intention of forming a band to play and promote their music in live situations. Fortunately, despite ‘Covid ‘, they were able to extend such promotional ideas via the internet and the associated worldwide network of radio stations. Hopefully, we are now in better times when the music partnership can be resumed and their dreams of taking their music on the road once again realised.

Despite this EP being fairly short, it comprises three tracks which, in effect, could be described as the preverbal A-Z of lead guitar techniques.  Throughout the programme, Nathan engages in some complex shredding with multitudes of tonal variations as he swaps between melodic chord progressions and myriads of heavy riffing. The compositional direction of the music proffers an excellent representation of the storyline with variations of pace and harmonics. There is too a subtle mixture of melodic phrases and electronic contributions as opposed to the passages of heavier riffing that create interest and variation to emphasise the storyline.

Summary: A short but quite delicious example of guitar techniques from a complete guitar master. A fun EP too and well worth getting hold of a copy.
