I must admit to being something of a latecomer to Sleeping With Sirens, as this is the seventh studio album from the Florida-based band. In fact, it was only when Written By Wolves released the amazing “Help Me Through The Night” with Kellin Quinn sharing vocal duties in 2021 that I even knew they existed. However, having now heard this I can see why WBW were so keen to work with them as in many ways they are following similar musical paths, although WBW probably bring in a little more Linkin Park. Quinn is an incredible singer and is the only constant throughout their career although bassist Justin Hills has been there nearly since the beginning. This was the last album to feature lead guitarist Jack Fowler who departed prior to its release with the line-up being completed by rhythm guitarist Nick Martin and drummer Matty Best.

Quinn provides the keyboards which are often an important backdrop to the crunching guitars, providing an additional level of class and polish, and while the music may well be described at alternative rock, one can also imagine it being described as metalcore, emo, pop punk and many others, depending on the listeners own point of reference. Quinn’s vocals are described as being leggero tenor, and he certainly has a very distinct style in the way he can project his voice which allows the band to go very heavy indeed at times as his vocals can easily lift above the maelstrom and still provide a somewhat lighter feel even when the band are hitting very hard indeed. Highly commercial, this is a punchy album with plenty of presence and is one I enjoyed playing immensely. Now all I have to do is hope that I am at the gig where both Sleeping With Sirens and WBW share the stage, as that will be a very special night indeed.
