Here we have the latest single from blues rockers Lazy Fifty, where Adrian Athy is discovering his inner Savoy Brown/Foghat with some filthy distorted guitar which is straight out of the Seventies. I was fortunate enough to see these guys play last year and they are a blast with traditional, blues-based rock and great presence. The introduction could be straight from Rory Gallagher, and part of me expected it to move into a dirty groove, but instead the tempo lifted, and we were into the style of commercial, blues-based boogie I grew up on. It just makes the body want to move, the noggin to bounce, and the feeling that all is right with the world. Producer Greg Haver (yes that Greg Haver of Manic Street Preachers fame) said it was great to re-visit the world of Lazy Fifty again after previously working on their ‘2021: A LAZY ODYSSEY’ album. “It’s always encouraging to see a band refresh and continue on their musical journey, a path that Adrian constantly treads in his desire to expand his virtuosity and push the boundaries of the genre.”
It may only be five minutes in length, but it keeps switching and changing, becoming quite commercial in some places, then running off with the groove again and it is quite impossible to listen to this without moving. I hear Adrian is heading back to the UK next year, and it will be interesting to hear what happens as I have no doubt he will be in his rock element.
