Here we have a new outfit, but whenever I see the name of drummer Adam Jarvis (Pig Destroyer, Misery Index, End Reign, Fulgora, Lock Up, Scour) I always it up and take notice as he has been at the forefront of some of my favourite extreme bands for many years. This band were formed by guitarist Bradon Studebaker (Immortal Torment, ex-Rejoice) and vocalist Devin Swank (Sanguisugabogg, Tomb Sentinel, Earthburner, Immortal Torment, Ablation, ex-Limbsplitter),and after they had written the songs for this their debut EP they were joined by Jarvis, bassist Ethan Buttery (Jivebomb, Sinister Feeling), and guitarist Andre Pickens (Tsuris) and headed into the studio
.
Citing Pyrexia, Internal Bleeding, Eternal Suffering, and Scattered Remnants as influences, what we have here is a blistering attack from beginning to end from a band who are determined to take no prisoners. Swank has a great deep vocal style, Jarvis is as powerful as one would expect him to be while the bass is broad, rich and distorted. However, we don’t get the clarity one would hope from the guitars, and the result is something which is undoubtedly incredibly heavy and, in your face, but not as devastating as it would have been with a different producer, as the slab of mud definitely lets this down. Overall, a powerful debut, but let’s hope both for a follow-up full-length and someone else at the controls.
