This Aussie trio was formed in 2010 and consists of Kane Dennelly (vocals/guitar), Jeremy Berg (Drums), and John Gwilliam (double bass). While their music is based in the blues, they are also prepared to have some fun with that, so “Kids Having A Good Time”, with its funky backing vocals and use of keyboards is quite reminiscent of ZZ Top around the ‘Eliminator’ period. I am sure much of this was recorded live in the studio, with just overdubs added later as it has the high energy feel one expects from a band who have played more than 70 festivals.
They have a rough and ready raw commercial approach which is designed to get feet and hands moving, with anthem-like choruses as they mix blues with Americana, rock, sweat and mud to create something which is fun, exhilarating and vibrant. They sound like the ultimate feelgood band, where every gig is a party and those who see them leave the gig with huge smiles on their faces. I am guessing the album title comes from trying to describe their music to others as while it has blues at its heart there is so much more happening as well, almost as if late Seventies Foghat and early Eighties ZZ Top have had a bastard child who want to party, and this album is the result. There is a feeling of restraint throughout this album, as if they were worried about really letting rip, but I am sure their gigs are something else. This is a fun album which is a great introduction to the band, and I look forward to catching them live at some point.
