Ryan Yard (Robert Reed Sanctuary band) releases his latest solo album – and what an unique musical journey it is. Sure to appeal to fans of Mike Oldfield and Robert Reed (who has also remixed an excerpt) and mastered by the legendary Tom Newman (Tubular Bells) this is an album of delightful, ambient beauty. Guitar is by Justin Towell.

Containing just two long tracks – and made using just an Ipad and a variety of apps (and a keyboard, of course) – Ryan has crafted an album that is organic, human and natural without resorting to studio trickery. To do this, he insured that every note was played by hand, often without a click track. He also embraced the mistakes, timing issues and noises that would normally be erased from history, to show that this is real music, even if it is written with something smaller than an A4 sheet of paper.

Ryan says: “We live in an age where digital perfection is just a click away. Performances can be realigned and tweaked to give a sense of virtuosity and technical finesse beyond our wildest expectations. This is, of course, a wonderful thing and one I embrace. However, I feel that something has got lost amidst the quantisation and countless edits and retakes. With this album I have attempted to set myself limitations in order to regain the sense of spirit I feel is lacking. It is my hope that as you listen to the album a connection is made beyond the notes and that I can take you on a journey that is musical and magical.”
