The word “supergroup” tends to get used too often, but when it comes to extreme metal this band is probably the closest we are going to get to one. Scour have had a few line-up changes since coming together in 2015, and the current line-up is Philip H. Anselmo (Pantera, Down), John Jarvis (Agoraphobic Nosebleed), Derek Engemann (Philip H. Anselmo & The Illegals, Cattle Decapitation), Mark Kloeppel (Misery Index) and Adam Jarvis (Pig Destroyer, Lock Up). This EP of six songs is less than 16 minutes long and is exactly what you would expect if you were told a load of grindcore and extreme metalheads were going to turn their mind to black metal.

This is brutally heavy, yet somehow maintains the finesse of black metal, combined with the brutality of grindcore, punk and thrash. Anselmo manages to switch his vocal style around, so whereas there are times he can come across more in a death manner, he also does black metal quite well, while the rest of the guys are fully in their element. This is a crossover album which maintains the high points of both, with the result being the only thing really wrong with it is that there is just not enough of it. This is their third EP, following on from 2016’s ‘Grey’ and 2017’s ‘Red’ and it really is time that we got an album.
