This album is the third from Delay Tactics, with the line-up of Walter Whitney (keyboards, synths), Carl Weingarten (electric and slide guitars) and David Udell (acoustic and electric guitars, keyboards) who all played on ‘Any Questions?’ here being joined by fretless bassist Michael Manring. None of that seems at all strange until one realises their last album was released in 1984, 38 years ago! I have not heard the early albums, and have not previously come across this band at all, although I have reviewed some of Carl’s solo work as well as Michael. This sounds as if it is stuck in a timewarp, with Michael’s bass often the most forceful instrument with the rest often falling into ambient.

There are times when they are more in your face, with “Shadow of Berlin” sounding like Kraftwerk but with guitars, hence the title, but for the most part we are back in the Eighties and the synth-driven pop scene which I was not a fan of at the time, and nothing has happened in the intervening years to make it any more palatable. Middle of the road for much of the time, there is little here which excites me, although I am sure anyone who remembers these guys will be keen to discover this album as it is certainly a rarity for a band to have such a long gap between releases with what is fundamentally the same line-up. Not for me.
