Recorded over three days in July 2019, this six-track 39-minute-long album was released in June last year. The improvisational band came together when Ilia Belorukov (synthesizer, feedback) and Dmitriy Lapshin (bass guitar, effect pedals) started playing as an acoustic duo long before changing approach and genres, and then inviting Konstantin Samolovov (drums, objects, voice recorder) to join them. I listen to quite a lot of experimental music and improvised music, so this style is not new to me, but I have had some difficulty in getting to grips with this release. I have very broad tastes indeed, but there is much here which just does not make sense, and instead feels more like three guys sat in a room messing about and seeing if at the end of it they can edit it together to create something.
True improvisation takes place when musicians listen to what is taking place, adding elements to a theme to either emphasise it or to take it in different directions, but often this feels as if those involved are not sure what they are doing themselves, let along how to interact and add to what others are doing. There is no structure whatsoever, and while that is the intent here it is detrimental to the cause as a whole and having played this a few times to be able to review it, I am confident I will never play it again.
