If one takes a close look at the album cover one can see that both DuMaine and Miller are holding CDs in their hands. A quick search through Google later and I discovered that DuMaine is holding the 2010 album ‘Rapture’ by the Dave Miller Trio, while Miller is holding a cop of their last album together, ‘Happy With You’. That last was their fourth album together but was the first time her name had been put in front of his, which shows just how much of an impact she has been having in recent years. Miller has been a very well-known pianist and bandleader for many years, working normally with an instrumental trio and this is the first time he has worked with a singer, but given that Rebecca is his daughter it does seem like the right thing to do. His normal partners of drummer Bill Belasco and bassist Chuck Bennett are here, plus guitarist Brad Beuthe plays on some of the songs.

This is gentle swing, with all the music geared towards accompanying DuMaine and her gentle vocals. She is confident enough to move her voice around when the time is right, but for the most part she plays it straight and allows the complexity to come from those who are supporting her. Musically this is a real mix, and while “When In Rome” is joyful and fun, a samba can be found being performed in Portuguese, while I also really enjoyed their version of “Yesterday” where Miller follows his daughter. I am sure this was recorded live in the studio, with Miller concentrating totally on DuMaine and taking her lead. We get French vocals, Broadway numbers, all with DuMaine at the heart and soul of the music, and it is only right she gets the headline credit this time around. For those who enjoy gentle swing style jazz this is delightful.
