Field Recordings, the new live mini-album from London-based four-piece instrumental rock band The Fierce And The Dead, will be released through Bad Elephant Music on 28th April 2017.

Taken from the band’s incendiary set at last year’s Ramblin’ Man Festival, Field Recordings captures the band in their element – performing live on stage in front of an enthusiastic crowd. The album features two previously unreleased songs which may (or may not!) feature on The Fierce And The Dead’s third solo album, currently in production.

Says Matt Stevens (guitar): “The Fierce And The Dead is all about the live experience and this recording from Ramblin’ Man really captures that”. “It was an honour to be asked to play on the same bill as some legendary acts”, adds bassist Kev Feazey. “As a band we started out in tiny cramped venues so having the opportunity to play our noisy weird music to an appreciative audience on a big stage is both surreal and excellent”. And from guitarist and meteorologist Steve Cleaton: “Such a joy and honour to support truly great bands, playing in front of such a rocking and friendly crowd, and the weather was right as well!”

Field Recordings is available to pre-order now from the BEM sales site (below), and is available on CD and limited edition cassette with stunning all-new artwork from the legendary Mark Buckingham. T-shirt and multiple album bundles are also available!

The Fierce And The Dead are a 4 piece instrumental rock band from London formed in 2010. Their sound has constantly evolved since debuting with a 19 minute one track EP, Part 1, that combined epic post rock with electronica, krautrock and psychedelia. 2011’s debut album If It Carries On Like This We Are Moving To Morecambe added hardcore punk, jazz and ambient influences into the mix. Over the course of these two releases and a handful of live performances the band began to gain a cult following and critical acclaim from the underground and mainstream music press.

The following year they released the On VHS EP, which included live favourite ‘666…6’. They were often compared to King Crimson and Black Flag. More touring followed including the Rock-A-Rolla/Prog Magazine sponsored ‘Stabbing A Dead Horse’ UK package tour alongside Knifeworld and Trojan Horse and multiple appearances on snooker player and ‘interesting’ music fan Steve Davis’s radio show.

2013 saw the release of Spooky Action, their first album with Bad Elephant Music label. Spooky Action stayed instrumental but added interlocking Televison-influenced guitars, math metal and songs about quantum physics to the band’s sound. The album appeared in numerous blogs and magazines end-of-year best of lists and was critically acclaimed by Total Guitar, Rock A Rolla, Classic Rock, Echoes And Dust and numerous others. They finished the year with a nomination for a Prog Magazine Award for best new act. Gigs continued into 2014 and 2015 as they headlined the Strangeforms festival in Leeds, played alongside Anathema & Black Peaks, and toured the UK to an ever-growing fan base.

In August 2015 they released the Magnet EP which sold out on release. They played many more gigs including supporting Dave Lombardo’s post Slayer project Philm, Crippled Black Phoenix and The Aristocrats. They headlined the Riff-Fest festival in Manchester and played Arctangent Festival alongside 65daysofstatic, Deafheaven and Deerhoof.  The following year they reissued Magnet on vinyl via Crate Digger Records and were chosen to open Ramblin’ Man festival with Hawkwind, Europe & Whitesnake. TFATD played numerous gigs with everyone from Cleft to PFM, Evil Blizzard to Chuck Mosley of Faith No More. They were once again nominated for a Prog Magazine award, this time for international breakthrough artist.

In 2017 TFATD issue the new live album Field Recordings on the 28th April on Tape and CD via Bad Elephant Music and play their debut US gig at the prestigious RoSFest festival in Gettysburg, PA. They are currently recording their third studio album with more live shows to follow later in the year.
