The Wicker Man 73: The Wicker Man (2020)
A few months back I heard from Stéphane Maxime, who asked me if I wanted to hear the album by The Wicker Man. He has amended the name to The Wicker Man 73 because a Ukrainian band used "The Wicker Man" first and of course any searches for the title brings back lots of...
Winterfylleth: The Reckoning Dawn (2020)
There are going to be a great many people really pleased with this album, and to be honest I’m one of them, but there are also going to be quite a few disappointed and I’m one of those as well. The reason being is that this is their first full length metal album since...
Zebadiah Crowe: Host Rider (2020)
Don’t let the pink cover fool you, have a closer look at the woman and you will see she has a goat’s skull covering her face, which makes one realise that what is inside may not be all sweetness and light, especially when looks harder and she appears to be inside a...
AJ True: She Who Must Be Loved (2020)
This album is AJ True’s soundtrack to Erica Glynn’s film, ‘She Who Must Be Loved,’ which tells the story of the director’s own mother, Freda Glynn: a vibrant and tenacious Kaytetye woman from central Australia. She is lovingly described as a 78 year old Aboriginal...
Angband: IV (2020)
Iranian act Angband released their debut ‘Rising From Apadana’ back in 2008, but since their third album, 2012’ ‘Saved From The Truth’ there has been little activity. However, Mahyar Dean (guitars, bass) and Ramin Rahimi (drums) have been joined by singer Tim Aymar...
Antonio Adolfo: Bruma. Celebrating Milton Nascimento (2020)
Born in 1942, guitarist and composer Milton Nascimento is widely regarded as Brazil’s greatest living composer, having a huge impact on Latin music. Pianist Adolfo first met him in 1967 just before the Second International Song Festival (FIC) in Rio Janeiro, and...
Various Artists: Ronnie James Dio – This Is Your Life (2014)
You would think after 30 years of doing this I would keep better notes, but I have literally no idea where this album came from so am at a loss as to why I am now reviewing something which came out six years ago! Released in 3 different versions (why do the Japanese...
Various Artists: Nuggets. Original Artyfacts from the First Psychedelic Era, 1965–1968 (1972)
Here is another compilation, also from Rhino Records, and I still have no idea where it came from! Compiled by Lenny Kaye (later with Patti Smith Group), the double album was originally released by Elektra in 1972, before being reissued by Sire a few years later, then...

by Darren Walker on October 12, 2026 at 4:00 pmGrimsthorpe Castle, Bourne Friday, 4 September 2026 The torrential downpour that had made its unwelcome presence loudly known in the early hours of the morning might have felt like it belonged in the Bible but it soon passed and by…
- Ciro Perrino – Celeste
by Basil Francis on October 11, 2026 at 4:00 pmI wanted to start by hearing how you got into music at an early age and how Celeste came about. In truth, my relationship with music is connatural with my family. Therefore, since I was a child, I was “cradled”…
- The Pineapple Thief – Far And Wide
by Peter Hilton on October 9, 2026 at 4:00 pmIn the infancy of the internet era there were dial-up / email service providers, including my chosen supplier AOL. What has this got to do with The Pineapple Thief (TPT), you ask? Bear with me for a few paragraphs and…
- Nick Fletcher – An Unfolding Of Miracles
by Darren Walker on October 8, 2026 at 4:00 pmI am friends with many musicians, predominantly Prog, but a few who create music for less cultured tastes and most of them struggle to record and put out new material. Invariably they have day jobs, families and other things on…
- Kraanerg – Aria For Labellum Tongues
by Graham Thomas on October 7, 2026 at 4:00 pmKraanerg is the title of a ballet written by Iannis Xenakis in 1969. It is derived from the Greek and translates as ‘accomplished action’. It seems like an apt name for Nat Bergrin’s outfit, as they are certainly accomplished, and…
